How to Make a Fitness Plan and Stick to It

With the new year comes new goals --- possibly fitness goals! Creating a good schedule and personal fitness plan can help you stay on track with your fitness goals. Once you make a workout plan, half the battle is sticking to it. The following tips will help you not only create a fitness plan but also help you stay committed!

Find exercises that support your goals

What are your fitness goals? Do you want to lose weight? Build endurance? Build muscle? Do you have a specific target area such as your abs, glutes, or legs? Asking yourself these questions can help you find the right exercises for your workout plan. Research which types of activities or workouts support your specific goals such as toned abs or muscle building. Then add these exercises to your fitness plan. This is a great method of tailoring your workout plan just for you!

Establish a schedule

Write out your workout and rest days. You can start with four days of workout and three days of rest. Be realistic with your plan by thinking about your daily agenda. By creating a realistic workout schedule, you will be able to stay consistent. Consistency will help you stick to your fitness plan and help you reach your goals.

Add variety to your workout

Doing the same exercise every day may lead to burnout and injury. Mix your activities up throughout the week to relieve repeated stress your body and to stop you from losing motivation. As you plan your workout, you can choose several types of activities to spread across the week. Adding variety to your workout helps you stick to it!

Remember why you started

Sometime down the line, you may lose a bit of motivation. This is great is an opportunity to revisit your commitment and remind yourself why the fitness plan is so important to you in the first place. Focus on your goals along the way for a boost of motivation!

Reach out to others for support

Support from others may be just what you need to stick to your fitness plan. Mutual encouragement and motivation will help you stay committed. Grab a workout buddy or join a fitness community. You can sign up for a gym membership or try a workout class with a friend. You may also want to follow blogs, social media accounts or an online fitness community. Never underestimate the power of a good fitness trainer that will not only help you stay motivated but will help you get the specific results you are looking for!

Whatever your fitness goals are this year, a good fitness plan and your commitment can make those goals a reality!
